Write a response about the end of this book (about 5 sentences). Did you like it? Why do you think Edna chooses this ending for her personal journey/story?
As for me, it was quiet logical end. Edna chose freedom and the only way to achieve it was to go to another level, another world. She understood that Robert wouldn't be with her, and everything would be repeating over and over again - new lover, that another one, then someone else..I like this ending, although if I were Edna, I would try other solutions.
I like this book because it is interesting. In the end, Edna killed herself. I think Edna killed herself because she wanted to avoid the children. Although she is awakening, but finally she failed.
I think the end of this book is sad. She was succeeded to escaped form the society but not on she way to the freedom. She became free until Robert leave her and than she decided to find the feel of freedom when she first time swim in the ocean.
I cannot believe in the of the book Edna kills herself . It makes me sad . However i think it is a good choice because it is the easy way to escape her by evrything makes her upset and also she will be freedome and indepentdent.
i think it was a bad idea. She was young(29) and she still has time to think about her life and her choice. At least, she already had 2 children and committing suicide means she did not responsible to her children and her family. Mademoiselle Reisz also reminded her before about "the bird with broken wings". I think she was a failure.
It's a sad ending for us and Edna. I was quite sad when Robert confessed to Edna that he left to Mexico because she was already Leonce's wife, that he couldn't have her. I think Robert not just doesn't Edna, but their opinions are different (although they loved each other). Robert wants Edna to be his wife, which is exactly what Edna wants to be away from. Edna wants independence. Edna commits suicide because Robert, her only light, left her; she was afraid the upcoming future, herself, she knows that once she lived, she will one day forget her true love Robert (which she doesn't want to). Therefore, this is not a happy ending. In any matter, suicide is not an option to choose. There are only pain and sorrow coming with it.
In my opinion it was her last awakening, and to get freedom and independence from her husband, social view and children. For this book it was good end and logical exit. And also for Edna it was good decision because she did not see any solutions to this situation. When she escaped from this world, she shoed us that she is for one hundred percent independent, it means that she is not Leonce or Robert's thing she is a person.
I think the ending of this book is sad. Edna commite suicide because she love Robert, but she was married and have children. And she want freedom, don't want to be a wife of everyone. In the last chapter, she saw a bird with broken wing, and it fell in to the sea. This scene is a symbol, which mean that Edna isn't strong enough to get freedom, so she need to commite suicide in order to escape this situration.
I cannot definitely say that I really like the book. For me,it is unclear whether Edna’s suicide is meant to show her failure or her success. It is unclear whether Edna’s suicide is meant to show her failure or her success. On the one hand, the suicide is an act of ultimate submission to the power of social mores.Edna does not want to “trample on the little lives” of her sons and cause them pain. Equally convincing is the argument that the suicide is a cowardly rather than generous surrender, that an honest act of generosity on Edna’s part would be to live on as an independent and strong woman, serving as an extraordinary example to her sons and thus helping them to undergo their own liberations.
